PLANT ALVIN W. VOGTLE NUCLEAR OPERATIONS TRAINING FACILITY

Designed through multiple collaborative workshops with end users and training managers, the Operations Training Facility provides for enhanced learning through the layout of classroom, simulator and shop areas. Spacious common areas were designed to reduce stress through effective use of daylighting using high clerestory windows. The arrangement of space in simulator suites improves student interaction with key components, as well as to facilitate instruction and proper testing of methods employed. Placement of viewing galleries for simulators provides instructors with unobstructed views of students throughout the simulator’s use. Consideration of sustainable building initiatives has been factored into every aspect of the design. The 76,674-square-foot facility is also strategically placed in proportion to adjacent wetlands, ensuring little disruption and minimal harm to wetlands and wildlife.
