UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD 9TH AVENUE PARKING DECK EXPANSION

Designform is the Architect of the 9th Ave. parking deck at UAB in Birmingham, AL. Designform prepared a feasibility report in 2004 for the vertical expansion. The original structure was not designed or detailed for the seismic loads required by IBC2003. Working on behalf of UAB, Designform secured a variance from the current earthquake design requirements from the city of Birmingham for the project thus making the expansion possible. The two level expansion, which added 317 parking spaces as well as the retrofit of some of the outdated systems equipment, was completed in 2009.
